THE RECTORY CAMPAIGN
Building a New Home for the
Priests and Staff of St. Stephen's
In October, we began a campaign to rebuild our rectory (the church office and priest's residence). Sadly, our current rectory is beyond repair. Over the past 40 years, the pastors of St. Stephen’s have battled against persistent mold, water damage, and an ongoing rat infestation. Last year, Fr. Istre was forced to move out of the rectory to live temporarily in a house off-property. With the guidance of the Diocese of Lafayette, we have determined that the most prudent and cost-effective solution is to demolish the existing structure and start anew.
The New Rectory Design
Our architect Josh Hoffpauir has designed a simple and efficient building to serve as the new home for our priests and staff. It will include a two-bedroom, two-bath priest’s residence (1,200 sq. ft.) and an efficient office for our three staff (700 sq. ft.)
What is the projected cost?
The projected cost of work is $500,000. This includes demolition of the current rectory, the construction of the new rectory, and interior fittings. The priests and staff of St. Stephen's have helped to build up the faith of St. Mary Parish for 127 years. Our New Rectory campaign honors their legacy.
Continuing the Spirit of our Church Restoration
Last year, our parish completed a $1.4 million restoration of our church. We repaired termite damage, water damage, and mold issues. Our parish family at St. Stephen’s raised the needed funds in just over one year. As we begin this new and urgently-needed rectory project, we are turn to our patron, St. Stephen, for his intercession. We know that with that, together with our friends, we will be able to meet this new challenge. Each and every contribution will be cherished, because it will help to pave the way for the future of our parish.
